Whole Biome is an early-stage, venture-backed biotech located in San Francisco. We are a small team of scientists, engineers and physicians interested in improving human health by using the latest research from diverse fields, such as, microbiology, molecular biology, high-throughput genomics, distributed computing, pharmaceutical development and nutrition sciences.
We are currently seeking an intern with experience in analyzing high-throughput genomics datasets, e.g., RNA-Seq, DNA-Seq, metabolomics. Broadly, this position will involve the following activities:
Key Responsibilities:
Design and analyze multi-omics experiments with large datasets
Implement and develop state of the art metagenomics analyses
Develop statistical software packages for internal use
Present to the whole company at the end of internship
Requirements:
At least Master in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field
Strong understanding of bioinformatics algorithms, e.g., sequence assembly and alignment, genomic annotation
Solid knowledge of statistical techniques, e.g., EDA, regression analysis, hypothesis testing and ML methods
Strong programming skills: 3+ years in R, 3+ years in Unix/Linux environments using Bash, Make, github, and related Unix tools, 1+ year in Python and/or Scala.
Independent thinker and problem solver
Must have at least 3.0 GPA
Minimum availability of 12 weeks
Plus:
PhD or postdoc in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field
Background in biology/microbiology
Some experience in biomedical research
Experience in parallel and Cloud computing
